Our History

  • 1859

    Founded by brothers Henry and John Lindenmeyr, the Lindenmeyr Paper Corporation opens a small office and warehouse in Lower Manhattan, New York, specializing in paper, pasteboard and twine.

  • 1892

    Henry’s sons, Gustave and Henry, Jr. join their father in the business, which had since grown to include book publishing papers.

  • 1915

    Younger half-brother Fritz joins the firm, eventually becoming president in 1923.

  • 1920

    Lindenmeyr becomes one of the first suppliers of “twisted tissue” for use in fiber rugs.

  • 1948

    Lindenmeyr acquires Boston-based Rutter & McNaught, launching several years of growth.

  • 1950-1965

    As Lindenmeyr’s printing paper business grows, it buys the Schlosser Paper Corporation and the Cook-Vivian Company.

  • 1970

    Lindenmeyr expands into Philadelphia, and builds a large office space in Rutherford, NJ for sales and customer service.

  • 1984

    Lindenmeyr Paper Co. is acquired by paper, pulp and forest products supplier Central National Gottesman Inc.

  • 2013

    CNG acquires 60-year-old paper merchant A.T. Clayton, a leading supplier of paper for magazines, catalogues, direct mail and retail pieces.

  • 2017

    A.T. Clayton and Lindenmeyr Central integrate sales and operations to create a single merchant to serve the publishing community with paper and consultative services.

  • 2018

    Formed Lindenmeyr International to better service clients globally.  Based in the U.K. with offices in Europe, South Africa, Latin America, Asia and Australia.
